IMPLEMENTATION

Move information with a controlled plan and visible checks.

Data migration is a business-control exercise as well as a technical task. We help define what should move, which source is authoritative and how the result will be checked. The scope is designed around the target system and the quality of the available records, rather than assuming every field can be transferred unchanged.

Inventory and prepare

We identify the source files, entities, periods and record types to be included. The preparation stage can uncover duplicates, incomplete references, inconsistent formats and information that should be archived rather than imported. Mapping decisions are recorded and approved. Cleaning source information is a separate effort from transferring it and should be visible in the project scope.

Test before the final move

A trial import or migration helps test the mapping and identify exceptions. Reconciliation should use appropriate control totals, counts and sample checks rather than relying only on a successful upload message. Opening balances and historical transactions require a clear cut-off and review process. Records that cannot be transferred reliably are reported with a proposed treatment for approval.

Cut over and preserve the evidence

The release plan identifies the final source version, access restrictions, approval and recovery arrangements. The handover includes the agreed validation results, exception log and instructions for retained historical records. Retention, deletion and privacy requirements should be confirmed before copies are moved or removed. A migration does not automatically correct errors that already existed in the source system.

Frequently asked questions

Can all historical transactions be moved?

That depends on the source, target, licensing and available import methods. We assess the requirement and agree the practical limits before committing.

Should the old system be deleted immediately?

No automatic deletion is implied. Access, retention and recovery needs must be reviewed and an authorised decision recorded.
